We sail from Ilulissat and pass the large icebergs, which tower majestically where the Isfjord opens into Disko Bay. We pass the village of Ilimanaq and sail in the beautiful archipelago down to Qasigiannguit (Christianshåb). Both on the outbound and return trips there are good chances of seeing seals as well as whales and icebergs of all sizes.

We arrive at the city's port, dock and go up into the city. Qasigiannguit has 1300 inhabitants and is smaller than Ilulissat, but has its very own distinctive character. In common with other Greenlandic towns are the multi-coloured houses. However, Qasigiannguit is particularly colorful with a green hinterland of mountains, valleys and tundra.

On the tour around the city, we get a good impression of daily life. We pass the area where the dogs live. We visit Greenland's oldest wooden house from 1734, which is part of the city's museum. A special experience is the project 'Levende Boplads', which is technically based in the Qasigiannguit Museum. Here, during the summer months, there are offers for open workshops and historical revitalization. Boats and kayaks are put into the sea, volunteers dress in leather clothes and reproduce life at a typical summer accommodation in Disko Bay in the 16th-18th centuries.

Between visits and activities, we find a good time and place where we can enjoy the lunch brought from Hotel Arctic.

Special for the area are the hot summers with temperatures of up to 27 degrees Celsius. It is also at Qasigiannguit that Greenland's oldest settlement is located, and many exciting excavations have taken place here. During excavations in 1983, archaeologists found organic materials and hair half a meter down in the permafrost. The hair was approximately 4-500 years old and the only human material the researchers had to work with. However, it was not until more than 25 years later that the researcher Eske Willerslev, via DNA analysis and modern technology, made his internationally sensational findings, finding out what the deceased owner of the ancient tuft of hair looked like.

Thus filled with sensory-satisfying impressions, we again set course for Ilulissat. We end the day in style - with coziness and relaxation in Hotel Arctic's well-stocked bar, on the hotel's beautiful terrace or in the room, all of which have a view of the large icebergs and life in Disko Bay.
