The Eqi glacier (Greenlandic Eqip Sermia) is the only calving glacier that can be approached by boat. It is located approx. 80 km north of Ilulissat and does not calve the large icebergs, like those we pass on the sea. On the other hand, we can get very close to the glacier front and experience the dramatic boom and bang that sounds when pieces of ice crash into the sea or rumble in the glacier. Overwhelming sounds and an experience that few will forget.

Along the way, we pass the village of Oqaatsut and small abandoned settlements, steep mountains, beautiful waterfalls and large and small icebergs in different shapes and colors. If we are lucky, we spot seals and whales. A special experience is the moment we round the last mountain and two glaciers and the enormous Inland ice come into view.

We sail close, but at a safe distance, so we can enjoy the calving. Along the way, we eat a first-class lunch from Hotel Arctic's famous kitchen before heading home again.
